How To Get Free CNA Training

There are several ways you can obtain free Certified Nursing Assistant training. The training takes a few weeks to a year depending on where you get it. After training, you should be able to find a job in your area. Certified nursing assistants are needed in hospitals, doctors’ offices, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home care agencies and private homes.

Call local nursing homes in your area and ask if they offer free CNA training. Apply for jobs at the nursing homes that will offer you free CNA training in exchange for you working for them, or will offer you free CNA training and pay you while you train. Call local hospitals in your area and ask if they offer free CNA training through local colleges in your area. Apply to hospitals that will offer you free certified nursing assistant training.

If you are between the ages of 16 – 24, go to a Job Corps Center in your area, the one nearest you, or contact one in a different state, if you do not mind some travel time, to sign up for free CNA training. You can receive room and board, a weekly cash allowance and a transitional allowance upon completion of their one-year certification program.

Call the Department of Public Health in your area, or the one nearest you, and ask if they have a CNA scholarship program available. The CNA scholarships normally cover the cost of the CNA training and the cost of the state certification exam.

Receive your free CNA training through classes, lab work and clinical rotations in nursing homes and hospitals. Take courses in clinical theory, EKG examinations, diseases, phlebotomy, human development, medical terminology and communication with patients, which will prepare you to take the CNA certification exam.

Take and pass the state’s competency evaluation exam to become a certified nursing assistant that is required by most states. The two-part test, which is written and hands-on demonstration, can be administered by state licensing centers. Some community colleges may administer the exam.

Working as a CNA will involve constant attention with the people who you will care for, so having patience is important. You should be willing to assist in activities, like eating, bathing, dressing, transferring and other duties.

Steps To Obtain Your CNA:

So here’s how it works:

To become a CNA there are four things you need to do. Please Note: Step one is NOT required to obtain your CNA license, but you will not get hired as a CNA in Florida without it.

Step One, obtaining a CPR & AED certification: Obtain your CPR and AED certification. No this isn't required to take the state exam, but most work places require it! Getting CPR/AED certified isn’t hard. In-fact, you probably already have yours.

Step Two, learning your skills: Learn all the CNA material we provide you. Whether its reading, practice tests, or videos, learn everything! Go over it twice, three times, whatever it takes, know it! When you can pass the practice test and feel comfortable with all the skills, your ready to move on.

Step Three, filling out an application for testing: After learning all the material click on "Get Your CNA" in the course overview. There it will go over applying for the state exam.

Step four, test day: Go take your test on the date and time Prometric designates you. Pass the exam, and you will be issued your CNA license, its that simple!
